They will never taste sustained success because of their sordid origins, so of course they are the only consistent art-house animation studio in this country
I’ve known for a good while now that the circumstances that turned Vinton Studios into Laika were fucked up, but I still really enjoy their work, and find it important to have in a landscape where CG is so damn prevalent in film it seems to push any other method to the sidelines
(and I know they do CG stuff in combination with stop-motion work for obvious reasons, but even that’s preferable to not using stop-motion at all)

For me, it’s that Travis Knight really is legitimately talented as an animator.
In this world where people get all sorts of undeserved opportunities just for being related to someone rich and powerful, Travis at least seems to be using his privilege in a relatively healthy way.

I've never actually seen any of their movies, now that I think about it.
