Disney to Sell Marvel to Wade "Deadpool" Wilson

BURBANK, Calif. - Just hours after announcing a deal to acquire most of 21st Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company struck a deal to sell Marvel Entertainment, its successful comic book subsidiary, to employee Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool, for $10 billion.

In the deal, Wilson gets Marvel Studios, the blockbuster factory behind the Avengers movies, Marvel Television, which produces shows based on the publisher's properties, and, of course, the entire Marvel Comics line.

"We have had tremendous success with Marvel these last eight years, and indeed our intent was not to sell it, but Deadpool gave us an offer we couldn't refuse," said Disney's chief executive Robert Iger.

Some in the media industry speculate that Marvel is being offloaded in part to pay down some of the $13.7 billion in Fox debt that Disney is taking on.

Wilson could not be reached for comment.
