Cartoon Network vs. Nickelodeon and Disney

Was CN always an also-ran, or is Time Warner just that boring? Because I notice that, like, Time Warner is being sold to motherfucking AT&T and nobody cares, but if those other two entities' owners ever got bought out - especially by a telco - people would be freaking the fuck out

I always kinda figured Cartoon Network was the big Nickelodeon competitor with Disney being the also-ran

I'm under the impression that for much of the '90s, Nick was king, with CN steadily gaining households and the Disney Channel basically not existing prior to 1997

I know I had heard of the Disney Channel far earlier than 1997.

It was founded in 1983, but 1997 is when Disney got serious about it and converted it from a premium service to a basic cable channel and took direct aim at Nick

after 2000 or so they basically stopped running cartoons that weren't made for the channel and kicked them all over to Toon Disney (although Doug and Pepper Ann started airing on both in 2001)

that's when I gave up mostly

what if they were like my mom and thought that other networks were an instrument of satan

(granted in my case it was Nickolodeon and the Disney channel I wasn't allowed to watch but still)
