For one thing my exaggerated hatred of Drake is only like half serious. I don't like the vast majority of his music and he's a douchebag, but there are worse hip-hop artists on both fronts (see: Birdman, any Soulja Boy after the turn of the decade). His fans are leagues more annoying than he himself is, and dangerously Gamergateish in a few situations.
Secondly "Forever" is one of his better verses from back when he actually rapped like a rapper. There's some other decent stuff from back then too (and earlier), such has his collaborations with Nickelus F. Even around here though he was starting to already make shitty pop music ("You The Best" is one of the worst things to ever chart).
Also even though there are better verses on that song (all of them except Eminem's, actually), Drake's "last name Ever / first name Greatest / like a sprained ankle boy I ain't nothin' to play with" bit stands best on its own, and I wanted to make a "hard" (scare quotes mine) track to mix up the mood of the album a bit.
Finally the way the track mellows out into acoustica at the end mirrors Drake's career trajectory. Except my music is, like, good.
original version of this was not great so I reworked it from the ground up. I might polish it a little more before it's "done" but this is going on Lion's Paw II which is another tape where I kind of want to just loosen up and let things be without committing too much to any given structure, so I may just leave it.
Also if anyone's been missing me working with breaks here you go.
This was fun. I listened to it before reading the important bit about structure, and appreciated it a lot more after reading it and listening again. It definitely just sort of... flowed, guess you'd say.
ALSO for everyone who does not follow me on twitter, Chemicals That Think, Vol. 2 will be out Friday evening barring any shenanigans. It is a bit darker, slightly more aggressive, and more focused in mood than the first one. In my opinion anyway.
personal faves: Theme for Lost Phantom, Miss Zone 610, Jovian Gas Columns
definitely think there were some groovy ideas in Knockin' but for the sake of brevity I personally might have maaaaaybe split it into two tracks -- just me, though
pretty good stuff! I still gotta go back and listen to Volume 1 to see how it compares, but your work never ceases to be interesting
"Gulls" is incredible. Have you ever listened to anything by :zoviet*france: (or Zoviet France), by any chance? Because their work and Brian Eno's most experimental material immediately came to mind, and I know I've mentioned them to you before.
Those fuzzy distant pads are swanky. They remind me of Steve Roach's darker work, albeit recontextualised quite intriguingly. It's a good sound. The percussion like tapped glass jar bottoms is a very nice touch. I love that kind of drum timbre.

I haven't heard them but I've heard of them.
Did you like anything besides "Gulls"? I only ask because it's the oldest track on the tape.
