This whole album is pretty darned good thus far, although "Toy Sword" and "Dystopian Utopia" in particular made me sit up and take notice. You have a very strong sense of melody.
a DJ mix of some of my own favorite songs of mine, but slowed down. Two of which are from the albums that come out on Wednesday, and three of which are unreleased.
More Mike Watts since no actual DJing is involved but the general ethos is the same.
I'm glad to hear that. The description has the tracks and where they're all from (some aren't out in regular speed yet) if you wanna go from there after you're done listening.
so it turns out the cool chord progression I was using for this one song in an album I'm working on with a jangly, post-punk sound is actually overused tripe (Andalusian cadence). I wonder how I'm going to get rid of it. Any ideas
I would like to know what people think of this. It's rather different from my usual style.
I approached it by A) bothering to write a synth part at all and B) doing so first before filling in the percussion at all.
So it sounds like it might be in a weird time signature. Mostly, I wanna know if it's noticeably different from anything else I've done and if so if people would like to hear more of, um, whatever you'd call this.
Though it's telling about my limitations that I tried specifically to make something that wasn't a hip-hop beat and it kinda came out that way anyway.
like even if i disable a whole bunch of avast shields, it still won't let me access the page, i get a big 'warning this site could have harmed your computer' and my only option is to click a button that says 'get me out of here'
is there a different site you can use for hosting?
i like how energetic it is by the end, i definitely agree with Yarrun that you should pursue this kind of music further, if you feel so inspired. And, yes, it does sound different from your other work, mainly in the prominence of the synth part, i think.
i enjoyed Fishpowder. It's kinda like the anti-nightcore, isn't it? The voices sound so ominous and echoey.
MC Jumanji seems like fun, i think i'll listen to more of his music.
Well Chopped-N-Screwed music, which the Fishpowder series technically is, is older than Nightcore so it's more the other way around, but yes I suppose so. I'm curious as to if there were any highlights for you and if so what they were (there's a tracklist JPG included with the zip if you didn't see).
I find the reaction to "Sun Rolled On" surprising. I will probably try making at least a few more songs like it.
Jumanji has an EP out called King of American Grime and it's pretty good, I recommend that.
it's probably Paul Wall's best verse on the entire Get Ya Mind Correct album (where he's usually outshone by Chamillionaire) but anyway this is probably not the place for such discussion
I can hook you up with a copy of said record if you want, though. You'd have to find the official C&S version (by Michael Watts) on your own though, I've never been able to locate it online.
Hmmm I was looking for a physical the other day and I thought one of the sellers was from the UK, but maybe I'm misremembering or that was for another album.
That one I have not heard but Mike Watts is generally considered the second or third best Screw DJ (the best obviously being Screw himself, and OG Ron C being another contender) and it apparently has some exclusive freestyles, but not every song on the album is screwed! "Balla Talk II" itself is missing I know, which is why I didn't get it even though there was a seller nearby offering it for like $5.

I'm liking this thus far.
some of the tracks here have a distinctive 'groove' to them which i really enjoyed, thinking of Chichen Itza and The Cold Pacific especially
haven't heard seJ yet but i will
y'know the sound of Rulebook kinda reminds me of Citronella by Aesop Rock

No More Parties in LA was also a highlight. It feels dreamlike.
i might buy it myself, although it looks like it's a pretty expensive thing to get hold of in the UK
was fun talking though
