obviously, it's a work in progress. I'm not used to using things like "chords" and "structure" in my music, and I'm not used to trying to make things that aren't hip-hop either.
after a lot of finagling, I think I finally got a PayPal account set up correctly. As such, I turned on optional paid downloads on bandcamp for Record 11 and the Magic Planet series.
I don't expect anyone to because I'm not that presumptuous, but if anyone wants to make a small donation, you can do that now.
I did also find out that apparently people actually listened to those two songs from the abortive 'classical Touhou' album, which is a shame that I will carry to my grave
sampled here: punk band Left of the Dial, an obscure, possibly fake Boards of Canada bootleg, a conversation between Kool Keith and Xzibit, Karen Dalton

Finally put those samples to use and attempted to go ambient, sorta. (Key word: attempted.)
Had some time to kill and figured I'd experiment a little, though I can't say for certain if it resulted in anything worthwhile. May or may not make the cut for the new EP I'm planning, Saturday.
when I refer to "the tropics" what I usually mean is Florida, where I lived for about half a year with my father when I was a child.
it's a very particular time and place for me and it is something I represent often in my music along with where I currently live ("Appalachia") and "Japan", which I tend to use as sort of a metaphor for youthful naiveity, but in a good way.
I'm sure this all sounds stupid pretentious, though.
I'll be honest, I liked that you went all in in terms of concept, but this record has a few problems.
On the technical side of things, you really need to declick your samples. It's not a hard thing to do and like half the tracks on here have noisy clickity-clacks any time a new sound comes in, and it's distracting.
For another thing, some of the songs are conceptually interesting but sonically thin, the biggest offender here being "Crop Circles" ("The Choppers....and The Choppers" by The Tom & Marty Band is a great tutorial on how to do disturbing songs about anomalous phenomena), and "Botfly" crosses the line from "dissonant" into "annoying to listen to".
All that said I thought it was interesting overall. I liked the vocal tracks the best, and I wish there were more of them besides just the three, even if your delivery needs some work still.
Crop Circles and Botfly did exactly what they intended to do then. I agree with you about the clicks though. I tend to just mentally tuck those away as percussion, but they are unprofessional and I probably should get rid of them.
I'm also happy that you downloaded the whole thing! Most people didn't even listen to the bonus tracks. Scratch that, literally no one else downloaded the whole thing, so you're probably the only one who listened to the whole thing
