it's probably pretty obvious because of how often I use the same structure (standard TrW jam: 128 bpm, 4 minutes and some change, the same stupid presets), but often I'll build the core bits of a song first and then extend the beginning and end by taking away parts of it and/or adding new parts to accompany the roots
sometimes this works great, but other times a melody needs a structure that allows it to be memorable instead of being repetitive
if you notice something cool happens when you do something that FL doesn't normally record, such as hitting the "stop" button and hearing a sound fade out in a cool way, you can record that by opening an instance of Edison on the mixing board in the Master Track tab.
Noted. And I'm no stranger to taking advantage of weird programming quirks. This song happened just because a random piano roll turned out to sound really cool in 4/6. Which made making the rest of that song difficult, but tha'ts neither here nor there
and oh god, naney, you're right. everything is loud as hell
oh yeah in case it wasn't entirely obvious by now Elsewise will not actually be out in 2015 like I wanted
I'm only going to put it out if I know damn well I want to put it out, and as it stands, I don't even know if that's the case
some of the stuff I'm sitting on is magnificent, but I fear that I would be putting out something disjointed and weird if I grafted it all onto one franken-album because a bunch of it is pretty out there for me IMO and clashes with the rest of it; it would fit the name and everything but at once it feels like it would be a pain in the ass to listen to all the way through (which is Very Much Not Good, as I am definitely the type of person who enjoys doing that and I want to be able to have that for my own work)
A few tracks that were weaker than the others (I didn't really like the first one) and I would've liked if the music had more of an arc to it, still, very good overall.
I would be interested in seeing how you'd approach ambient music, I think your talent with synth tones would really work well with it, but, that's obviously up to you.
I may consider it down the line, though for now I think I'm going to take a bit of a break from doing the music thing as a means of hopefully bringing up those dreaded grades. The struggle.
My role in the earliest incarnation of the band is a bit all over the place, seeing as I was easily the most musically inexperienced. Like, if there are keyboards, that is most probably me, but I was mainly in the background.
also I remembered that I forgot to post this yesterday, it will appear on Pisces.
It is the first song I've made to bear any variant on the Diamondfish Records logo as its image, and it's also a sequel of sorts to Magic Planet 4 cut "A Space Adventure On Planet Earth". They share some of the same themes and both sample bits and bobs from the Steven Universe soundtrack (I forget the name of the episode I sampled for the original, this one came from "When It Rains").
It's technically an Orff metallophone, which is like the training wheels version of a glockenspiel; it is also technically my friends' mini-glockenspiel, although I have had it in my possession for several years now.
Also, the first song of that set is missing, wherein I play recorder with a surprising degree of fluency. I am, if nothing else, the master of dinky elementary school instruments.

I still need to learn how to use zebralette properly
I was trying to focus more on "vibe"

Also: Yeah, that's actually how I developed my style, and I did it each time I wanted to explore my style a bit more

If you clean them up with good effects, some of the presets are actually rather good. What instruments are you looking for?

Anyway.
If anybody wonders what my old band was like...
The first incarnation, the second coming (with a Bandcamp page and groovy pop single), and the third face of the Bodhisattva, for your delectation. All possible wounds exposed to air, all possible futures stretching before you. Before you ask, yes, I am the fat one.
Enjoy the proto-Sredni and friends.
