My dad's computer had Sound Studio on it, which is very similar to Audacity; said program had a reverse function in addition to tone and white noise generators. Sadly, said computer was rendered unusable when a water main broke over it...
Indeed. I want to use it in some terrible sound collage of collaged sounds. There will be beats, and there shall be bass. People will want to shake their lumps like there is no tomorrow, or else cry themselves to sleep from how lumping awful it will be. But either way, it will be remembered!
immna be trimming down the first drop and working on the mix at least some before i consider it finished though, suggestions/feedback welcome
okay i finally got around to listening to this
im not sure the beginning section thoroughly convinced me and as ever i think you need to fiddle around with your transitions because i think, especially the one at ~5:15 because i dont feel that you needed both that fill and then the '1-2-3' by itself afterwards. imo i think it would be really nice if you just had the fill, then bam, bring everything back in. feels like you slapped the sample by itself in there because you felt that you had to
and yeah i do want to say that when this gets into its rhythm it is the best + most original/imaginative shit ive ever heard from you. release this fuckin album already
Sub-bass. This needs sub-bass. All of the sub-bass.
Then perfection can be achieved.
Also, it should be, like, ten minutes long and build really slowly, because dubstep aesthetics.
(For the record, that underlying sound is me performing wordless death growls and screaming like an animal in pain through a filter, cut up and looped in layers.)
I don't really like how a lot of your sparser, drum-machine-heavy beats start out, but they really work when they get into a groove. "Swamp Wolf" is a perfect example: The intro is clunky and feels flat and disjointed, but the main groove is actually pretty cool and the change-ups are nice.
"Ghostpepper '97", on the other hand, promises to be a minor banger right out of the gate. Your rhythms are occasionally a bit stiff-limbed and strict to the four, but here that really works to the track's advantage, giving it this majestic processional or ritualistic quality. Very cool. I want to hear this in full, preferably at length.
Actually, what makes one strong weakens the other, in a roundabout way: Your programmed patterns really don't swing much. You might want to work on that, or at least switch things up from time to time.
This one's a bit of a special one for me, for two reasons. One, it's kind of a peace offering between me and God after a rough spot. Two, it's the first time that I've made a composition for a text instead of the other way around.
I wish I had better choir instruments. Nothing LMMS has is sufficient, and the choir midi that Finale uses wasn't cutting it. This doesn't work very well as a synth thing, not at all. Needs the words too.

That is one of the most clerical pieces of music that I have ever heard, and not in a bad way. Mission accomplished...?
in personal news, I put a new track up on soundcloud. Like I said in the description, I've had it for awhile, but, I just haven't put anything out lately and felt bad about that.
I thought about sharing "Time Bridge", which I am even more proud of than that, but I've decided to hold off on that one.
A compilation of stuff cut from the transition from America The Beat Tape to The Beta Tape will be forthcoming. Probably quite short though.
^^ I would advise that you make the snare hits in the second half a little sparser and maybe toggle with the snare sounds in the first half. Otherwise, definitely a solid atmospheric track. You have an interesting flair for layering melodies and instrumental sounds.

I will attempt to keep this in mind.
also thanks. That's odd considering I have no formal music training at all.

You don't need training to have a good ear; and I think that you are possessed of one.
Technically speaking, I am a musical autodidact without any formal musical education beyond high school choir lessons and the rudimentary ear training therein. I just have read a lot about the subject. So really we're in similar boats.
I'm going to actually try getting at least a little bit of work done today.
in particular, I've had an almost IDM-y track on the back burner for too long. Maybe I'll get that uploaded today.
also I don't really know about having a good ear. I mostly fill in the patterns in different combinations until I get something that sounds good and then I tweak it to my taste.
In some respects, it feels like a less dense/dissonant Dälek instrumental toward the beginning, which is most certainly not a bad thing. Later on it gets a bit more cutup-like yet also more melodic, which is interesting. The whole thing would be soundly improved with the addition of a strong vocal presence, however; seek out someone with a good flow and a voice with a lot of husk and presence and you'll be golden.
Have you ever considered taking public transportation to Philadelphia and actually going to open mic nights to scout people out? Insane idea, but it might work.
Not several days. I mean just for the day or the evening every week or every few weeks.
As for avoiding personal contact, you might want to move toward breaking yourself free of that particular fear by degrees. Just go out and see people first, then work up to actually talking to them.
I've resumed work on The Beta Tape, which still needs a better title.
in light of that, I am taking submissions for album art, but they must be either textless or contain only my stage name.
so that should be coming out (relatively) soonish.
in any case, tenative tracklist is as follows, because I'm a big dummy, I've already shared many of these. Sequencing etc. subject to change, and I'll add a few more as well:
Don't Go In the Woods [Fragment]
The Other Line
The Night After The Fire (Real Authentic Folk Version)

I might be able to do it with LMMS. The AFP app (the one that deals with everything sample-related) has a reverse function.

Let me just say this. You should play the forwards and backwards versions at the same time.

said track
excuse my lifting the entirety of the intro to "Mirrors".
you say this like there are rappers who are willing to work with me.
well, there's Stripes Solid I guess, but he has dozens of projects going on at any given time.
hahahaha.
oi
the main problem with that is
well, first of all, justifying going off on my own for possibly several days at a time would be hard to do
secondly, that requires face-to-face contact which...yeah.

Getting the song past 1:12 was an absolute pain. And I'm still not quite okay with the Threnody sampling.
