I might actually watch this now depending on what tone it has. I'm not really a fan of straight horror but this almost looks like it might be some kind of dark adventure thing instead?
it has that image i posted in my thread where if you come back up from too far down (not going down itself, which is interesting) you lose your mind, but it's not like dark souls depressive, especially given the character designs
I remember that! I watched part of the first episode while playing the game of Crunchyroulette months ago, and stopped watching because... either I was bored, or got distracted. Seemed fine enough.
I watched it, certainly, though it was a long time ago so I don't remember too much from it, but I remember enjoying it.
The character designs are good. I actually thought they were done by a different artist but maybe I'm just thinking of someone who did a lot of fanart? idk.
Apparently the designer for the preceding OVA was different, and that person (Kazumi Tokusa) is given dual credit with Akihito Tsukushi on the TV series.
I'm specifically thinking of POP, who did the character designs for Moetan and a couple other things, but I suppose it's possible Kazumi Tokusa is their real name.
been reading more manga chapters (there were only four scanlated, then up to 14 last week since anime) and i'm pretty confident that this is gonna be Fucked Up mostly in a great way
it's definitely not horror, just like
happy funtimes kidventure through hell
and it's not like a fakeout thing where you're like "ha ha these kids... oh that guy's arm just exploded", it's very explicit right off that the abyss deserves the name
i imagine spoilers wouldn't be interesting, but it also does the thing where a maneater mimics human screaming to lure people in, which is Good as well

Oh hey, that guy who did the music for Under The Dog.
Same studio, in point of fact.
I was wondering whether they'd do more stuff.
They do a lot of technical support for other studios but have actually been responsible for a number of series themselves, including Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (with Bones), Yuyushiki and Barakamon.
In other words, they're generally good at cute and bleak, so this is weirdly in their wheelhouse.
so I should point out that this is an exclusive to fucking Amazon Strike (along with literally every other show I was planning on checking out this season).

Fun fact, though: The director of the OVA? Tetsuro Araki.
