My mom is Chinese who was born in Laos. Also she's Hmong but doesn't seem to like to talk about it or something.

My dad's Laotian and Thai. Well, Thai Issan.

Yeah, I'd go longer than this but I'm too lazy to do it now.

I was born and raised in America. I'm white and middle-class, and most of the people I've interacted with were as well, though a few of my friends' families might be more accurately considered part of the working class. I figure my ethnicity is pretty clear-cut. There's not a whole lot to say about it, because I think most of us have some awareness of what being a part of mainstream America involves.

I'm 1/4 Jamaican, 1/8 Bajan, and 5/8 ambiguous black (probably African-American, I guess).

But I don' tal like ahm from dem Carribean places nuh less I feel like it, mon. I can understand Jamaican English almost perfectly though.

I have a Jamaican professor who grew up learning the Jamaican, African-American, and Standard dialects of English. The class was sociolinguistics, so there was a lot of discussion about dialects (or "accents" to the layperson).

It's interesting to see how people choose to speak a certain way in order to align themselves with a certain social group.

I'm very white.

A large part Spaniard and some Scandinavian. Hard to say if I'm "mostly", anything.

I have some English and French in me as well.

I hail from Scotland on my Mother's side.

While that aspect of my bloodline is quite distant, I'm simply going to ignore everything else and pretend that I'm purebred Scottish, because Scotland is cool.

I'm a huge mishmash, pretty much a human mutt

But the three big ones are:

Scottish/Irish (We don't know for certain which)
English
Mi'kmaq (a native tribe of Canada)

There is so much in there though that I look like a typical white guy (although my uncle really shows the Mi'kmaq and so does my mother - either one of them could pass for a Mi'kmaq under the right conditions quite easily - especially my uncle)

Well, I'm of entirely European descent for as far back as can be traced. Other than that there isn't much in the way of blood... purity(?) that I can claim. A good chunk of my genes are Italian and Scandinavian, but I think there's some French, Irish, and some others I don't quite remember.

I don't know how much that really matters. I don't think any specific part of my whiteness makes my physical appearance much different.

I always thought it was strange how people get uncomfortable about things in the family that have stopped being dangerous. If I remember right, I think my family suspects my grandmother has some Jewish ancestry that she's tried to keep secret, and she refuses to say anything about one of our late family members having involvement in some New York mob.

But I think of myself as English, because I'm not fluent in German or know a word of Gaelic. :P

Interesting question. I've always been told I'm Irish, my dad says I'm partially Scottish, but frankly, I've only ever known I'm white. And that I never tan. I burn.
