Jared Diamond is a naturalist who spent much of his career classifying bird species. From his perspective, humans and chimpanzees are so similar that they should be considered members of a single genus, such that the scientific name for chimpanzees should be Homo troglodytes rather than Pan troglodytes. On this issue, Jared Diamond is a lumper, whereas most other people remain splitters.
