Royalties were paid*, there's nothing shady about what will.i.am did.
Now he's not a particularly innovative producer that's true, but even his early work was really heavy on sampling, I don't know why people pretend he only started doing that after BEP became a weird electro-pop act.
*except that one time and he ended up getting sued. Whoops
deadass I think I like Fergie's solo work just as much if not more than what she's done with the BEP, who I both like and will readily admit to liking despite myself
there are reasons for me to dislike them (and not your standard "eugh, pop music" reasons, more like "it's not right that the original version of Let's Get It Started was Let's Get Retarded" reasons) but. it's funky shit and I like that
nobody went into the creation of "My Humps" with the intent of revolutionizing music, but it was enjoyable in a thoroughly stupid way, and despite Will's claims to the contrary I think the same can be said for the group's discography as a whole
I meant more of Will's attitude toward his music as a whole rather than anything particularly about "Humps."
I can't find any quotes about it off the top of my head, but it's pretty clear he considers the Peas to be more innovative and groundbreaking than they actually are. At the very least, that's the impression that his persona gives off.
