I have an indie comics thread that's also been host to quirkier big-name stuff like the Vertigo imprint, but a mainstream comics thread has been sorely lacking here.
I heard good things about its early volumes from when it was still running and I think it won awards at the time, but it's possible that it hasn't aged well in the last fifteen-odd years. I've also heard of some solid feminist criticism of it, but I have no context because I'm mainly just aware of the premise and that it's art is pretty good.
Tom King's Vision: Mother of God, it was one of the best comic experiences I have ever had, why aren't you reading it right now?
Section 8/Hard Traveling Heroez: A combination of fun romps through the DC universe, featuring the breakout stars of Hitman, the dysfunctional supehero team Section 8. It's irreverent, hilarious and has a surprisingly emotional core to it
The Flinstones: The original cartoon was, in its own tame way, meant to be social commentary. The comic decided to double the hell down. Every comic is based around savaging some sort of social concept while giving some emotional depth to the Flinstones
I mean, Section 8 is a completely different...thing from Hitman. Hitman takes itself at least somewhat seriously. Section 8 just takes the piss out of every serious character it encounters

Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead
On topic, I read a bunch of Bob Bolling's Little Archie recently, but I don't think anyone here has a reference point for that, so...
Also there are trade paperbacks out for Dial H
I know I should really read The Twilight Children at some point.

I'll keep it in mind, then.

The author is famously skeptical about the majority of superheros, with the one exception of Supes. This comes out in both Hitman and Section 8
