I received a rather unusual Christmas present in 2010. Starting 23
December, the hit counter of Girlz ‘N’ Games went through the roof.
There were well over a hundred comments to moderate, and several emails
to read. Unfortunately though, the response to the Christmas comic (and some other strips) was for the large part hardly what you would call positive.

There was very little in the way of constructive criticism. Instead I
rather wish I had received a dollar for every time in the past two
weeks that I’ve been called a worthless cunt who should A) die B) get
raped C) develop cancer or, most commonly, D) stop making comics.

I discovered that Girlz ‘N’ Games #81 had been posted up, among other places, at the video game section of 4chan – the largest English language imageboard on the Net – as well as being introduced into the infamous Ctrl+Alt+Del webcomics thread over at the Something Awful forums. Neither of these sites are populated with people known for their mild opinions.

So, yeah, I thought I’d link one critically reviled thing to another –
namely three of the biggest disappointments of the festive film season.

Well, I don't think she should A,B, or C. But if she refuses to change her "art", than she should totally D.

I mean, I'm not a fan of Ctrl-Alt-Del, but Buckley's art never elected visceral feelings from me.

It's /v/. The misogyny, obscenity and general lack of a sense of proportion or self-restraint are all par for the course.

She is apparently a fan of Ctrl-Alt-Del, actually. As well as a lot of better comics. It's a very quality-indiscriminate list of influences.

You guys, girls can make terrible webcomics too!

Normally, the snarky creator reaction comic is something I dislike. I feel, some of her anger is justified. If she's not getting constructive criticism but just threats of being raped/murder/cancer/etc. then, yeah, that's douchey and derserves calling out. But, at the same time, browsing her comics, her art nor writing has really improved, so I feel she should at least take some advice and not keep up comics without trying to improve her overall quality.

I started at the beginning and read a few comics. Her writing definitely has not improved at all since she started. Her art has gotten cleaner, it seems. That being said, her proportions are just terrible and she refined her sort of not well defined faces into horrible shapes that only vaguely resemble faces.

Looking at her art and the comic I posted above, it's actually kinda sad, but I can actually recognize that Andrew Hussie has skill even when he's TRYING to be bad.

SB&HJ are at least kinda funny to look at, where's these other comics are just grating.

Yeah, to be honest, I've always been puzzled as to why SB&HJ didn't hit a nerve when looking at the terrible art in comparison to the genuine strip that he parodying. Then I realized, there's a difference between someone who halfway knows what they're doing and someone who's stretching their limits as far as their artistic ability goes.

I didn't mind that "The cake is a lie" was used so much. But it's sort of an awkward setup.

Mostly, that art burns my eyes and that girl needs to make her characters look like something besides really ugly geometric patterns.

Friday had the same reaction. Though I agree, I sort of figured that Reginald is the kinda person(????) that's very hard to get gifts for, so Beartato basically tricked him into getting a best gift possible for him rather than deal with another year of "THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANTED AT ALL."
