The closest thing that I can compare Xiu Xiu's La Forêt to is probably George Crumb's opus Ancient Voices Of Children, both in terms of sonic palette and emotional timbre. People do not tend to make the connection, maybe because they are too caught up in what they think that they should compare music like this to, but that composition is the first thing that came to my mind when I heard this record. I love both with a mix of intellectual admiration and envious affection, and both make me smile and shudder in equal measure.
"Rose Of Sharon" is a strange, eerie song on a strange, eerie album. It is not so cracked as "Clover", nor so anthemic and cold as "Pox", but the oneiric drift and oceanic swell of the song have a very distinct character. I like it very much.

Gorgeous song, methinks.

Chris is an awesome drummer.
...they seem to be one of those "revolving door drums" kind of bands...

WHO PUT THE BOMP IN THE BOMPABOMPABOMP
...It's a good pop song. I like pop music because there's no such thing as a song that "should be big", because it will be big.
But this band sounds good.
