oh but i definitely sorted BTAS into that same category, of grim violent boy cartoons that weren't funny

when i was a little older i liked BTAS a lot more, though

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Hooray for being kids who didn't like action cartoons much!
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I liked Bruce Timm when I got to be a preteen though
  • I don't understand Odradek's disdain for The Simpsons.

also I think the only time I have heard the X-Men cartoon referenced was that one video that is just a bunch of scenes from it randomly cut together into a nonsequitorial mess. That video is great.

It ruined the communcation abilities of a generation

    who are these people

it's like when I was railing against "Scooby Fans" because I wondered if John K was on to something

lesson learned: man has skillz with a z but he is a crank

^^ well i mean, only in so far as Monty Python ruined the communication abilities of a preceding one
  • My dreams exceed my real life
People who are unable to communicate without referencing bits from the Simpsons that are, invariably, not funny out of context
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
also, some people's disdain for Scooby-Doo: What if I told them that the left wing and the right wing are both part of the same bird?

It's not as bad with Monty Python.

Simpsonskids are literally unable to comprehend reality outside of the context of a lame Family Guy precursor

i know you're talking about a real thing but it's like

'ruined the communication abilities of a generation' makes it sound like there's this group of people who love the X-Men cartoon, hate 3D Mario and quote the Simpsons all the time, when it's more like, a lot of people quote the Simpsons from time to time but very few people quote them incessantly, and the other two are just mildly popular opinions i guess
  • My dreams exceed my real life
There is a new Simpsons quote on my twitter dashboard for every hour of every day
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i'm guessing you follow a lot of people?
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Nerd critics do this all the time too
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
Well that doesn't surprise me, because nerd critics like reference humour, and the Simpsons is an easy reference to make that most of their viewers are going to get

idk it's just when you say 'Simpsonskids' i'm justl like, those are not a thing, lots of people watched that show and it's very quotable, they're not like a subculture or hobbyist group or anything like that
  • My dreams exceed my real life
It's this whole area of culture I am locked out of, because I didn't have the childhood Simpsonskids had, which apparently involved being locked in a room playing the first ten seasons on loop for five years.

I went and watched the most famous episodes once but it was not enough, because "getting" conversations between Simpsonskids, who are frustratingly omnipresent requires knowing shit like what Krusty's dad sounds like

Nothing in life should EVER require knowing what Krusty's dad sounds like.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I remember the episode with Krusty's dad but I forget what he sounds like
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
well it was a popular show

    idk what to say here

i feel locked out of the conversation when people talk about the Premier League, because i don't follow it

or when people talk about stuff that's "all over" twitter or facebook, when i am on neither
  • yesterday everyone was talking about Milo's fursona and it took literally 3 hours for me to figure out what they were talking about because nobody would actually mention who they were talking about
  • My dreams exceed my real life
These people are unable to just say "I'm waiting for it" they say "Krusty's gonna get here"

    Fuckers
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    https://twitter.com/SimpsonsQOTD

    Every day I see this

I don't even follow it but I might as well
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    ohhhhh

so there's a popular twitter account that posts only Simpsons quotes, and people retweet it

suddenly this is making more sense
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
    You should mute that account.

I’m not saying you should be magically avoidant or however you might respond to this, but muting one Twitter account is a reasonable thing to do in such a circumstance.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    Sure

People will still not shut up about reverend Lovejoy or whatever dumb unfunny character
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
well i mean, it was a very funny show at the time
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I'm being more bitter than I should be. The Simpsons had great episodes and was a trailblazer, I just hate it being a holy text
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
I'm not saying it will fix everything.

It will at least make your Twitter feed more pleasant for you to read, if nothing else.

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
^^I loved SpongeBob as a kid, but I feel similarly about how Tumblr acts like everyone of a certain age knows every pre-first movie episode by heart
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i can see interacting with a show entirely through out-of-context quotations on an hourly basis being very annoying
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
this is what it's like when people fill a thread with references to Homestuck or Steven Universe or something

    to me
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i love both those things so much that i find that quite saddening.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.

    you seem to dislike both
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
not really dislike, just feel indifferent.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Cf. me never having watched an episode of MLP:FIM and having little desire to do so.

This is one of those things I can never bring myself to feel much more than the most mild annoyance over.

Like, Homestuck's ubiquity came about as close as anything would, and even that caused a resounding meh.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

Cf. me never having watched an episode of MLP:FIM and having little desire to do so.

tbh a lot of the fans seem to care far more about fanart and fanon and fanfic and shit than the show itself
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    no you don't understand!

MLP:FIM was just an OK cartoon!  Steven Universe is legit really good and impressive, in so many respects!

(disclaimer: it's actually fine to be indifferent to SU)
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
horse world kicked it up a notch or five though
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.

yesterday everyone was talking about Milo's fursona and it took literally 3 hours for me to figure out what they were talking about because nobody would actually mention who they were talking about

the only people i've seen talking about milo's fursona are the ones who actually linked to it and i am worse off for having seen that
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
frankly, all of humanity is worse off for having paid attention to milo yidontgiveafuck after he stopped paying his employees before he even ended up at fucking breitbart
  • milo's fursona is a 6/10, would be a 7 or 8 if it werent for the hair

    it really captures his douchiness
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Honestly, I know that there are things that people reference—that I reference—that, in relying on that knowledge for their full impact, alienate some folks who don't share that set of interests, but I smile regardless, because it reminds me that some people do, in fact, care about what I care about. I just try not to overdo it.

I'll admit the love for Steven Universe kind of puzzles me.  The show just irritates me for some reason in a lot of the same ways Spongebob did.  But people aren't obnoxious about it so...meh.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    What ways are those?

I...I'm not sure I see where that comparison comes from
