OpenEmu with filters that make the game look like it does on a TV and a controller works well for me.

Then again, I'm not sure what the equivalent ideal Windows emulation experience would be.

I've done DS stuff on an emulator. It ain't perfect but it works.

Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky barely uses the touchscreen since it's a roguelike, so.

...I can't actually remember when it ever uses it other than for the character quiz at the very start.

Sky is the best you're getting with DS. And no, it doesn't really use the touchscreen for anything but display.
