The Walt Disney Company

It's so fucking weird that a corporation that is, on its face, all about upholding the legacy of a man who has been dead for 50 years simultaneously has a face and does not have it, and has sucked up a bunch of things that have no bearing on Walt.

Also, that we're supposed to view Walt as a perfect saint who was the best at everything

is Disney related to Walt Disney, the man who Walt Disney fans claim that Disney is attempting to erase?

a fairly distant descendant, at this point

And now MvC4 will be near-impossible due to a number of factors. I is sad by that.

also, speaking of Buena Vista, I've always found this logo vaguely unsettling:

it's dark, the long version of this (embedded above) often came out of nowhere, the resulting symbol has no meaning beyond being some vague "aspirational" symbol, and it's just a creepy, soulless non-entity

What was the point of not calling it "Disney" anyways?

"Buena Vista Distribution Company" was already the name of their film distribution unit, so they just transferred that to television syndication.

That, and they might not necessarily wanted to have applied "Walt Disney" and all the connotations that name has to everything they syndicated. (This despite the division using the segmented castle logo for the first ten years of its existence)

That logo looks like they wanted to be as generic as possible or something

The long version of its successor tried to make it actually interesting:

The short version was much more common:

It's funny how the long version adds some interesting bits but the short version is even more generic

also how much they both smack of "here, here's a budget of what's in my pocket and you are on a deadline of tomorrow morning"

I'm kind of surprised that the long version even exists because they really had to reach to use it (as far as I know, it only ever appeared at the end of Nick at Nite's reruns of Moonlighting, which were gone from the schedule within months, and America's Funniest Home Videos, which lasted a bit longer)
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.

this logo is better than Disney deserves

    it's so fucking boring

    the short version especially:

    Well, what's a not-boring one?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
i don't know, something not so deliberately devoid of fingerprints?

when it appeared at the end of stuff like 101 (original run, the cable reruns covered it up with a Walt Disney Television logo) and Hercules it felt like it wasn't supposed to be there - the deliberate non-entity thing was less obvious on non-"Disney" shows but still
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
you have this which isn't as dull but it doesn't feel like it should be at the end of non-Disney-branded shows:

also, the Disney side completely overwhelms the ABC side
