The official Lara Croft: Tomb Raider thread

apparently there is already like a predefined conversation to be had about the Warcraft franchise that I was never privy to

Comments

  • once again I accidentally hit publish on a thread when I meant to leave the page

this happens to me on mobile kinda often
  • let's talk about Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

it's not the best movie of all time, but it's probably in like the top 15 or so?
  • definitely one of the top five movies of the 2000s at least
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    what are the other four
  • you weren't on MMO forums as a preteen

    you weren't there, man
  • I'm not sure? my brain is kinda mushy so I don't feel like making a list
  • kill living beings
yeah i don't know what this conversation is. you've probably doomed yourself though.

i watched the tomb raider movie but i don't remember it. all i remember now is the suggestion that she get breast cancer
  • yeah i don't know what this conversation is. you've probably doomed yourself though.

what happens is people talk about Warcraft, then someone comes in and says it's bad, and brings up an older MMO that no one has played in 20 years. Then, some other person says "yeah but WoW is successful"

and then it just kinda goes back and forth like that until judgment day.
  • I've never seen the Tomb Raider movie and actually didn't know there was one until naney brought it up.

But then, I Don't Watch Movies so that's probably not surprising.
  • kill living beings
oh. that sounds kind of boring.
  • I just kind of found it bemusing but apparently what I thought was a wide-spread touchstone is not, and now I just look like a jerk.
  • now Jane you are fine

anyways (*towards everyone not just Jane*) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider only has 19% on rotten tomatoes but dont let that fool you it is well worth your time

^^I was legitimately surprised when a few people here didn't share my fear that MLP:FIM's third season (half the length of the first two, and which brought the episode total to 65) would be its last, so I know how that goes

i've never, like, played MMOs? they kind of bore me. i'm not some kind of moon gynoid, I'm a breathing semi human individual!

and warcraft is like... i mean they're fun games but madass was right, the story aspect is derivative as hell

which is not the case for Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. I think in the new game you deal with jōmon artifacts? that is the best shit.
  • Warcraft III was actually one of my first encounters with that kind of fiction so I have fond memories of it.

I've actually never played many MMOs either, but when I was younger I thought they were Cool and Adult.

The actual writing in WoW is abysmal mind you

anyway, I'm sure Laura Croft is a great movie-film.

I've given MMOs an honest-to-goodness shot but seriously this.

    Angelina Jolie is pretty
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Kings Island used to have a Tomb Raider ride, though they renamed it the generic "The Crypt" after CBS sold the park.

    I never rode it though.

I did, however, see a Tomb Raider stunt show at Kings Island.

13-year-old Alice thought that was super cool.

Same thing happened to a bunch of stuff at Carowinds / Kings Dominion and the other Paramount parks after the sale. One example I distinctly recall is the Borg Assimilator at Carowinds, which is the Nighthawk now.

It had a sick paint job in the old days.
  • Anyway re: Tomb Raider: it was the first movie I remember seeing Angelina Jolie in

My dad liked the games, though he didn't really keep up with it after the first reboot

The first game in the current series is probably alright but the death sequences in it make me squirm because of how detailed they are, so I'm probably not going to play it or the sequel
  • also Jake English is totally a Lara Croft wannabe

(and if the fan art is to be believed he's pretty good at it)
  • Jane said:

as a kid I was really into warcraft 3 and very upset at all the retcons to the lore in wow
