  When you do it from server code to JS variable, you have to use three slashes so it ends up in the JS declaration with one, and renders as a regular double-quote when called.

  fun fact: backslash only exists in ASCII because one of the guys involved was a huge nerd and wanted to be able to use /\ and \/ to represent and and or, respectively
