Have you ever had a mental orgasm?

I have had many mental orgasms. Among the things that have caused them: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year DoorSpace Ghost Coast to Coast, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, discovering Yowp's blog, Cucumber Quest, Steven Universe, Undertale

  • I don't even know what that would be and the concept honestly sounds kind of gross.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    It's not sexual really.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
this terminology is going to require explanation

get that sapiosexual shit outta here

Seriously speaking, I think I know what you're talking about, but I would never ever call it an "orgasm."

A sense of wonderment, being overwhelmed, blah blah blah.

    i don't believe i've ever had a "mental orgasm"

(otoh i would say that a sufficiently moving story is better than an orgasm)
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Technically, "orgasm" used to have two common uses: The sexual one, and a more general sense denoting a sudden rush of intense, overwhelming emotion, usually positive. Both come from a Greek word meaning the same thing.

That said, it's still a really awkward phrasing, to put it mildly, and unintentionally skeevy.

a more general sense denoting a sudden rush of intense, overwhelming emotion

there has to be a better term for this, surely

('the feels' springs to mind but that gets used so lightly, too lightly)

i guess just 'overwhelmed' works, maybe?
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
in this moment, I am euphoric
  • someone with a heavy geordie accent saying "gives me the feels" and gazing longingly into the distance

oh, yeah, euphoria was that word, wasn't it?  and then reddit ruined it
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Euphoria is indeed the word, although that describes the emotion better than the event.

i quite like 'catharsis' as a term, although that refers to a slightly different event

also a rather earthy term if one considers its origins, but Aristotle coined it, which makes it highbrow
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    I know, right?
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
We'll call it "euphoria" and that will be the end of it.

Based on thirty seconds of Googling I have the sinking feeling that catharsis came from a word meaning "to shit"

    Sort of.

A cathartic is a purgative. It refers to spewing out a poison from the body, usually by those means.

    not exactly

it came from a Greek word meaning purification, or purging; however, in Aristotle's day it was usually employed with reference to laxatives
