Well, he hit the Chandra issues on the nose, at the very least.
The original 5 planeswalkers generally have an issue with being generic as hell, the giant one-eyed albino lion aside. It's less obvious with Garruk because of the whole 'corruption of the veil' thing making him interesting, but if you take that away from him, what is he besides a generic green shaman-hunter type?
Out of the human monocolored planeswalkers, Liliana is probably the one with the best characterization. It's still a bit generic because, well, she was one of the original 5, but unlike the other original 5 (except Ajani), her initial backstory still plays into what she's doing now.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

On the one hand, "female sorceress makes a deal with demons to be young and beautiful forever" is really in "not even trying at all" territory. But "and then she goes on to kill all those demons" is a pretty cool twist. Either way, her backstory from Magic Origins is pretty good.
As far as monocolored human walkers go, I think Elspeth was the best characterized. In retrospect, she reminds me of Samurai Jack a lot, this wandering knight trying to protect people and find home, but never being able to stay.

Then she died.
Elspeth is a close second.
Gideon is a close second in the 'boring overall' category.
Not since Theros block. Last couple of block stories were told exclusively through Uncharted Realms whatever boring thing they're calling web fiction now.
The novels weren't very good tbh. The short stories are a bit better.
The novels varied pretty heavily in quality. I loved the Kamigawa ones as a kid and while I suspect they're not actually as good as I remember they were at least passable while some of the others were just awful.
I read Agents of Artifice (the Jace novel) a bit more recently and thought it was pretty solid, though I never got through the Chandra one.
I haven't read much Uncharted Realms. I keep feeling like I ought to follow the story but never feel motivated enough.
Which is understandable because the RTR ebook is like if Hamilton ended with Hamilton turning into the US Constitution after the articles of confederacy got torn up, despite not being a candidate for president, not being eligible for the presidency, and that not being what happens when you win a presidential race.

Even discounting all the older stuff they've been posting a short story a week on the website for the last five years.
There used to be novels, etc.
