    But either way, I prefer "win" or "finish" with games where you're not actively fighting the mechanics or where the point is story-based or a passive challenge.

    Fair. I use them more or less interchangeably, if not without erratically using one where I find it more fitting ("finish" for something like UT).

    Ah, sorry, i was ninja'd.  i meant Sredni/naney's use of "beat" struck me as pedantic, since in most contexts it's synonymous with "win" or "clear" (and there is some measure of skill involved in clearing the game on any route)
