There is a logical through-line vis à vis isolation and astronaut dying => space dog dying => family black sheep as space dog. Does "Brontë" deal with emotional isolation?
Spaceboy, you're sleepy now Your silhouette is so stationary You're released but your custody calls And I want to be free Don't you want to be free Do you like girls or boys It's confusing these days But Moondust will cover you Cover you
If this is the same Bronte I'm thinking about then oh God the feels. I don't even have any particular pet that's been dear to my heart and that one stings.
Gotye FTW. I know he's been doing stuff with the Basics these days, but there's something about his solo work that just speaks to the soul. I'm a little disappointed that he's considered a one-hit wonder in the US, his work is much better than any such status would imply.
^^^^ That works for entirely different reasons, but it doesn't *quite* connect to either "Why Won't They Talk to Me?" or "Neighbourhood #2 (Laika)" to "Brontë" thematically—or does it?
^^ It does sorta relate back to the original song in the topic in a weird way, and particularly to the sequel song that I quoted in my initial response.
well the connection to Brontë should be obvious, but I have no clue what those other songs are about so
"Brontë" has one big theme that the lyrics and the video portray somewhat differently. I'll leave it to you to watch it when you like.
"Trespassers W", though, is about isolation, particularly in the face of the loss of faith or a more general guiding principle that one had in youth, and nods to the Winnie-the-Pooh stories in the title; meanwhile, "Ladies and Gentlemen..." references a famous line in Sophie's World, which is about an entirely different set of philosophical concerns.
