The last one in the OP is a very faint blue square on a dark blue background. The gamma is low and there's what looks like JPEG artifacts everywhere when I pull it into GIMP and mess with the curves.

They're paintings.

Black on slightly darker black. Sometimes with blue and grey in it.

Oh, I figured as much, but these prints don't really do them justice either. Punch up the levels and the black looks like purple, like it's food-coloring black.

To me, they look kind of like rugs and door panels. Yeah, I'm not being very creative, but it does look like a good spooky atmospheric background.
