The rules in Gremlins are not specific enough, given their importance
1. Don't expose the Mogwai to bright light especially sunlight, which will kill it
Fair enough so far
2. Don't get it wet, don't even give it water to drink
This is also fair, although it's probably worth it to ask whether humidity counts
3. Don't feed it after midnight
This is where it all falls apart. When can you feed it again? Daybreak, or a specific hour? Does daylight savings time affect this? What about time zones?
Really, the Gremlins would have spawned the minute one of the family had to get up early for work or school and fed the Mogwai without thinking about it.
