  I used to eat them all the time as a kid, on their own.
  
  Now I only eat them if they're melted on/in a sandwich or burger.

  I had never seen anyone else say they do it before, so I guess I assumed it wasn't normal.

  i had a flatmate who thought it was funny
  
  but he also thought it was weird that i had a washing-up bowl and two separate towels in the kitchen, one for drying plates and the other for drying hands, and both of those are completely normal where i come from (he's Malaysian-Australian)

  I've done that (the buying a block of cheese and cutting off slices for snacks) thing with sharp white cheddar, but that's really the only cheese I do it with.

  
  

  Actually I rarely buy blocks of cheese, usually I get pre-sliced (not the singles so much as like, slices of swiss or cheddar or muenster or something) or shredded cheeses.
