Lingering Will really just seems like every fucking boss in Dream Drop Distance, except he can actually be staggered for a combo or two. I'm kind of used to cheap-as-hell continuous attacking by now.
Sephiroth in KH1 had so much fucking health they literally couldn't fit it onto the screen, so you have to drain an invisible health bar to start seeing progress.

You were also supposed to fight KH1 Sephiroth at a point in the game when you could drain one of those (invisible) healthbars in like 6-7 hits. His problem wasn't the health, it was the continuous attacking with almost no opening -- and at least he staggered once you knocked him out of it. Also he was a top-tier bonus boss and you expect him to be extremely hard.
Pretty much every other boss in Dream Drop Distance on Proud or Critical, starting with the very first one, was a KH1 Sephiroth. Except they didn't stagger, and you couldn't just superglide to the opposite side to chug a megalixir because they were a quarter the size of the arena and could leap across it faster than you could move away. Half of them could only be feasibly fought by running away while popping homing magic behind you, because if you got close they'd sodomize you instantly -- and even then it was partially luck.
Hell, the penultimate boss of DDD spams an entire army of the BBS bonus boss at you. They're each just about as powerful as he was.
