I associate them as people who care a lot about each other, to the point that it's cute.
Now, you may say that this is identical (or at least analoguous) to romance, but romance generally has certain cues, both sexual and platonic, that make it it's own thing.
Yeah, that works better for these characters anyway. I really wish there were more relationships like that in fiction (the crew of One Piece, and Mane cast of MLPFIM).
I hate the idea of "friendzone" as if "just a friend" is a bad thing, or as if a friend is "just" or less than romantic.
Look, there is such thing as deep, meaningful emotional connections without romance; fiction.
And that's my main problem with shipping Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, it that it ruins a good example of an awesome platonic relationship.

People seem to confuse storge with eros pretty often...
I once saw a yaoi fangirl say she couldn't ship Bill and Ted, because they are the best friends ever and shipping them would change such a beautiful friendship to something different.

Same.
The thing that people do where they turn platonic same-sex relationships into romantic ones is a double-edged sword. Sure, you create more representation for LGB, but you're reinforcing society's command that as long as two parties are close to each other and sexually compatible, they must have sexytimes with each other. And that's the kind of thinking that leads to the concept of friendzoning, and nobody wants that mess.

I shall erect a statue of that girl in Rozburg, and have it be wearing a most elaborate hat!
It's pretty much like that panel of Homestuck said: It's not great, but it's not horrible either. And I can get it for $0.99 a bottle at Sheetz, so there's that.

The clouds are pretty today!
Also, the Buick totally ran a red light, since she's in our way even though we had a green arrow :\
The optimal way to look like an idiot is to acquire a choice selection of tropical fruits, apply them to a top hat, and then place the hat upon one's head.

It's just soda. Not great, but not that bad either. What's the big deal?
We all need to settle down here.
Strongest thing I get on a regular basis is Orange Juice.
