I still stand by that post I made when the fantrolls showed up.
I question whether this was the forefathers' intent when they founded this fangorious country, that we should spend two years' income ensuring that people will see and make porn of an original character.

Withholding seizure of sleep for a moment. What post?
We live in a society in which two people spent $20,000 dollars so that their fictional characters can die in a popular webcomic. That’s, like, a third of a year’s salary for some people.
This is America. This is the Western World. This is 2013.
it was specifically stated that the fan character would not survive for longer than one panel
and that
the ten thousand dollar thing was included as a joke
and that
Homestuck is one of those things that is very difficult for an outsider to understand, let alone pass judgement on.
You do realize that I think including the fantrolls and then immediately killing them is probably the best thing Andrew Hussie has ever done in my eyes?
I say that is rather a unfortunate way of looking at it.
Some peeps gave 10,000 dollars to one of their favorite artists. in exchange, he showed them a rather silly form of appreciation.
I maintain that if you just give someone $10,000 for no reason I have the right to make fun of you, because you're evidently rich enough that me making fun of you is going to have no impact on your life whatsoever.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
The thing that always confused me is that people act like the $10,000 was solely to have a fantroll in the comic for one panel. Like, did we just miss the part where the money was going to be used for developing the Homestuck game people have been wanting?

You know, sometimes I feel like you criticize stuff like this and then hastily slap a justification on it later.

You should really keep in mind that I am not always entirely serious when I express a dislike for something.
Certainly, I find the idea of paying $10,000 for, well, anything but living accommodations silly as hell, but I don't honestly care that much.
There's a big difference between merely having an opinion and the way you tend to present yours but I'm tired and really don't feel like going through this again.

because it apparently needs to be spelled out:
I do not actually hate very many works of fiction. Authors thereof, sometimes, but still rarely.
I overuse the word hate to describe what is more mild dislike of things, blame the internet.
people being disproportionately offended by me not liking thing tends to make me even less inclined to like thing.*
There, we are now clear and no misunderstandings on this subject will ever come up again. Hopefully. *Hence why I have never bothered to try to get into Homestuck again, but my experiences with that in particular are a story for some other time.

Or why you think your secondhand knowledge of Homestuck is sufficient to criticize the author.

my actual feelings on Homestuck are best summed up by the word "meh", and that fact really offends people for some reason.
- I do not actually hate very many works of fiction. Authors thereof, sometimes, but still rarely.
- I overuse the word hate to describe what is more mild dislike of things, blame the internet.
- people being disproportionately offended by me not liking thing tends to make me even less inclined to like thing.*
