I want Anonus
Too bad he's probably off sleeping like a sane person
i feel that the spread of Internet culture into real life is a sign of the growing popularity of the Internet, which to my mind is a good thing. Although, memes IRL seemed funnier to me when they were injokes, because of the potential for confusion.
memes are funnier the fewer people know about them, because memes are injokes, and injokes become utterly pointless when absolutely fucking everyone is in on the joke. its why 4chan cant produce anything funny anymore, because fucking everybody knows about it, so anything actually funny is run into the ground within about 5 minutes
also most of the people who insist on bringing internet things into real life tend to be really insufferable

This is true i guess, but the elitism you sometimes see regarding memes irritates me, where there seems to be a desire to alienate outsiders. It seems purposefully insular, even antisocial.
Like, however old a joke is, everyone has a first time hearing it. That enjoyment isn't any less for happening late.
Memes are invariably funnier to me when i know their origins. When they're just words or images that obviously have a signficance to other people but mean nothing to me, i tend to feel weirdly intimidated by them.

like the GET OUT frog, nearly everything from Nico Nico Douga, and most Reddit memes. Some of them are funny, some of them you have to be there to get.
I mostly hate on memes because I like feigning hipsterism to pester people on the internet.

don't you go anywhere
THE SPAM FILTER MESSAGE IS STILL WRONG

honestly I have found that what memes irritate me and what don't is completely arbitrary.
also, I had lots of fun with ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), fuck what anyone else says.
This sounds xenophobic. Hm.

I want to someday write a book about foreign internet communities. Because they're often strangely similar, yet distinctly different than our own.
It will be called Visions From Another Internet.
