  • You turn left.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
To me it just looks like a bunch of cars driving in a circle, wasting tons and tons of gas.
  • Well in all fairness, not many other sports have the players going 200mph on a tight little circle

Yeah, but as I understand it, it's more along the lines of "I'm a NASCAR driver, so every football player should kneel before me when I encounter them" type thing.

He said this one guy was really bad about it, I forget the name though (NASCAR drivers seem to have weird names pretty often).

  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.

  • To me it just looks like a bunch of cars driving in a circle, wasting tons and tons of gas.

An explosion of raw-horse power through a course, racing to see who'll win.

I don't like it either, but given what it's about, I wouldn't look down on people just for liking it.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    Well, I would. Dumbass rednecks.

It seems like a silly sport to me.

    But eh, whatever.

The big draw about NASCAR is how they take stock passenger cars and turn them into racecars. Of course, it's nowhere near what it used to be -- like with how it was in the 60's where the cars on the track weren't as far off from the ones on the dealer's lot as they are now, with the average car being worth well over a million -- well, wait. I was going somewhere with this but I got lost. Too many left turns
  • Imipolex, do you feel white-washing an entire fandom of fast motor-vehicles reveals an ability to actually scrutinize and judge things?

What you're doing is basically no better than the people who call My Little Pony Fans as childish fools.

I am ashamed of you Imipolex, -50 clock points.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Alas, my statements may be a little harsh tonight. I am very tired from work.

I retract my previous statement and dance a little jig instead
  • Work is for people who have jobs. You are ones of those people.

    ...

    I'm so smrt
  • Imi, until you realize the error of your ways, those points will never return.

  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
If I lose enough clock points, do I go back in time?

Listening to Fist of God by MSTRKRFT.

Good lord, I want Spotify. It's like pirating but legal, and instant. This trial has been amazing so far.
  • Also, holy crap, this album flows like butter. Like, even moreso than For Lack of a Better Name, whoa.
  • Not when it's on toast.

    But you get my point.
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
I have actually seen melted butter in a bowl in the microwave before. I forget what exactly it was for, but it was for coating something.
  • Ugh, Structures' debut album is bad. :<

And they were so promising too, their EP was awesome:

    hopefully they'll bounce back.
  • I think I may be slightly in over my head with this whole DMing thing.

    What am I doooooooooooooiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

  • I've DMd before.

    Didn't like it.
Lazuli: Like I said in the other thread, if you need my help with anything, feel free to ask.

We have about a week or so to get everything settled, right?
  • Possibly longer, but yeah.

I'm just worried I'll screw up. Probably should've stuck to a vanilla D&D setting instead of this Flipside crap, but whatever. I'm too far into it now.

Creating your own setting is a bit more ambitious than most first projects, but I don't mind that. In fact, it gives me the impression that you care about the game and the setting a lot to put so much effort into it. I'm not particularly experienced in roleplaying, but that sounds like a good quality of a GM to me.
  • Well thanks, I just hope I don't disappoint.

I should start writing up your first adventure, now that I think of it. I wanted to watch Toonami tonight, but meh, this is more important anyway.

  • This is the very very first draft of what will eventually be your introduction to the world of the Flipside (or Sareth as it's known in-universe). I hope it's not too....stupid? It is meant to be a little hammy though.

It is the year 1081 of The New Calender in the world of Sareth, also known as The Flipside.
Elsewhere, Noeli Roniteth has just begun her term as Prima of Dorado, and the Goblin King Klezzoreee is nearing the end of his life. But you are in the fledgling city of Andar, an unincorporated city-state that owes its allegience to no nation or king. It has a ruler of course--the San Murai Hanset--but it is by and large an independant entity.
This explains why it draws characters such as yourself, perhaps you were brought here in search of fortune, or fame, perhaps you seek a mystical item, or perhaps you're on the lookout for something more intangible--personal power, perhaps? Whatever your questions, you seek answers here, for this is a town of adventure. A city where mechanations of seedy politicians clash against the arcane might of wizened wizards, a city where an Oni, a Goblin, an Elf, and a Duergar can meet at an inn and walk out of it a single unit, with a goal in mind. This is a city where anything is possible.
Andar is a port city, but despite its position on a coastline, much of the surrounding land is a dry desert, due to the Illnak Mountains off in the distance, which prevent much rainfall from ever reaching the area. This gives Andar a unique climate, and perhaps it is this contrast that marks it as the city of adventure that it is.

Sounds kind of like a pitch from a movie trailer or a book cover sleeve. I like it. The coastline desert city aspect is interesting. It kind of gives off an Ancient Egypt vibe, though there doesn't seem to be a major river.

That's kind of inspiring me to write up a mini-intro for one of the two settings I'd want to use if I ever got around to setting up that dragon roleplay.
  • i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind

just got back from seeing Brave.

it was very good, i liked it.

  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Mother says that the critics are kinda trashing it and missing the point of the movie. I found it to be very moving, myself.
  • The pacing was a bit too slow IMO.

    Thanks.

I dunno if the entire game will take place here or only a portion of it, we'll have to see.

For some reason I'm reading the Amazon.com thread about the Kindle 4.1.0 software update.

The conversation is dominated by the kind of people who think any software update that changes something they're used to is an affront to all users. Yes, it takes more clicks to turn off the Wi-Fi now. No, I'm not happy about it, either. But it's certainly not a dealbreaker, especially when the new software adds support for more advanced book formats.
  • Yeah, I'm just not going to do anything else until I go to sleep.

Everything that I have attempted today has ended pitifully. Everything unrelated to music.

...I should probably see if I can compose something.
  • But it's certainly not a dealbreaker, especially when the new software adds support for more advanced book formats.
    Can it read Epubs now?

    Took them long enough.

Unfortunately, no. I'm fairly sure the new formats they added were proprietary, such as Kindle Format 8.

This is one of the main reasons I asked for a Nook Color.

Well, that, and the Kindle Fire didn't exist in 2010.

"People can be total asses over anything"? I think that might be it."

"Don't give Gabe from Penny Arcade a reason to grill your sorry ass" is a lesson people should take to heart. Tycho has mentioned many times that the man has turned getting under people's skin into a science.
  • I don't really like Penny Arcade, so no comment.

I just find the idea of an association of newspaper inkers that takes themselves that seriously utterly hilarious.

    It's July now.

    Weird.
  • I'm kind of addicted to this song.

No, I don't get why either, but there's something about the whiny vocals. "IT WAS VINTAGE '69! YOU TOOK IT OFF!"
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
The draw for NASCAR seems to come from people that are in the tank for a certain driver, or people who just like seeing the crashes. I think hippodrome-style races are kind of dull otherwise; give me rally racing any time.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I'm not really into racing; also, for some reason the fact that NASCAR is one of the only mainstream sports that isn't played by teams of more than one member at a time is bizarre to me.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
There are teams, of sorts, in NASCAR in that they may have multiple drivers in one race, but it's the individual drivers (and, less commonly, the make of car) that get most of the attention. Interestingly, it's like that in oval-track races in the Olympics, too, specifically speed skating and track & field.
