Every so often I get one where solving a single clue manages to make the rest slot into place without much further thought. In this case it was ARM/STRONG

EDIT: I’m kind of starting to wonder if these aren’t intentionally written to be more difficult solved top to bottom (because that’s the default) than bottom to top. There’ve been a few individual clues lately that I figured out easily in reverse order but never would have gotten in forward order, like UNDER/WATER in today’s puzzle.

This one was, like, the perfect level of challenge. I was able to solve it from the bottom up, but some of them required me to stop and think for a bit.

Also, I solved the mystery theme!

I was rather proud of solving the “murder mystery” this week.

An explanation follows, don’t click if you don’t want to be spoiled:

The number of clues in each of this week’s puzzles corresponds to the number of letters (and the space) in the associated character’s name.

Each puzzle this week has an emoji in one—and only one—of its clues.

To get the name of the murderer, you have to take the position of the clue with the emoji in it and correlate it with the letter in that position in the character’s name. If you do that for every puzzle, it spells out another character’s name.
