Laura: plops down a printout with a photo of the vice principal This is our man. Marlowe St. Vincent. One in a long line who call themselves “The Inquisitors”.

Stella: Oh, like, it actually was a witch hunt! I feel like I owe Rudolf an apology.

Rudolf: I mean, it’s not like I knew that when I said it. I was just being insensitive.

Stella: Yeah, but you were right. It’s fine to be insensitive if you’re right!

Rudolf: You have an interesting way of viewing the world.

Laura: glares I’m sorry, are we done helping our friend evade the serial killer already?

Stella: Right, right. Tell me more about this St. Marlowe guy.

“Millennium” is never outright stated to be a faerie, but it’s hinted repeatedly, with scenes like Millennium showing up surrounded by a ring of mushrooms on the grass.

Stella nearly absentmindedly steps into the circle, but Millennium subtly holds out her foot to gesture her back.

Stella: (flatly) Yes. How silly of me. Let’s just get going.

—— LATER THAT EVENING ——

Rory, seeing Rudolf for the first time that night: Hey, Rudolf! Nice Dasher costume!

Stella: cocks her head and stares blankly

(Stella, Rudolf, Laura, and Rory are sitting in a circle on the floor in the finished basement of Stella’s house, having a “meeting” of sorts.)

Stella: First things first. I know we had decided to wait until the equinox, but I really think we need to talk to the Witches’ Council as soon as possible.

Rory Pike: Question…why is it called a “council” and not a “coven”?

Laura: Those are two distinct concepts.

Rory Pike: What’s the difference?

Stella: Does it matter?

Rory Pike: I really wanna know.

Stella: We can talk about it after—

Laura: The representative from Corbeau has the floor.

Stella: No she doesn’t.

Rory Pike: But…we’re all on the floor…

Rudolf: I think the relevant detail for our situation is that the council is purely an advisory—

(Stella raises her wand. A streak of incredibly bright sparks come loudly shooting out of it. Rory and Laura cover their ears.)

Laura: …The chair recognizes Ms. Winterborn.

Rory Pike: How could a chair recognize anyb—

(Stella raises her wand again.)

Rory Pike: …I’ll be quiet.

Colonel Pannick: It’s been quite a long time, Your Royal Highness. A bit longer for you than for me, of course.

Rory Pike: Don’t call me that.

Colonel Pannick: Ah, yes. Where are my manners. What is it you go by these days? Rory something?

Rory Pike: Pike. Rory Pike.

Colonel Pannick: Pike…Pike…it suits you, doesn’t it? After all, you’re just a fish out of water, Mademoiselle Pike.

(Later in the episode, after Stella has disarmed Colonel Pannick, Rory stands above him with her boot to his throat.)

Rory Pike: It’s a weapon.

Colonel Pannick: What?

Rory Pike: A pike is a weapon. A big ol’ spear. And look who it’s pointing at right now.

Colonel Pannick: I’m sorry, Your Roy—Mademoiselle Pike. I assure you I—

(Rory pulls him off the ground by his collar and shoves him towards the door.)

Rory Pike: Get out. I never want to see you again. Once every thousand years is already too often.

(Xandra runs up to Stella in a panic, trying repeatedly to get her attention, but Stella is busy arguing with Millennium.)

Xandra: Stella! Please! You’ve got to—

Stella: Do you mind?? It’s bad enough that I have to deal with freakin’ Minky Momo over here!

Xandra: …Minky what?

Millennium: I’m not gonna lie, Stella Winterborn, that one’s kind of a deep cut even for you. Freakin’ otaku.

Xandra: turns to Millennium Hi, yes, sorry, I’m sure you have all kinds of wacky trickster god crap going on, but i really need to—

Stella: Xandra, please…

Millennium: No, no, by all means. You two mortals go to your mortal things. I can always play with you later. Peace out! teleports away

Stella: Why does that word always sound like a slur when she says it?

Rudolf: …Is that hyperbole, or can you actually do that?

Stella: I guess we’ll find out, won’t we?

(Xandra comes walking up with her phone held out to Rudolf and Stella.)

Xandra: Rudolf! Stella! Have you heard that cute new song about the Christmas cookies?

(Stella storms off.)

Xandra: Jeez. What’s her problem?

(Rudolf and Stella are sitting in the food court during Stella’s lunch break when Laura and Xandra come running up in a panic.)

Laura: Stella! Rudolf! The “Christmas Cookies” song! It’s cursed!

Stella: You don’t need to tell me that.

Laura: No, like, an actual curse! Like the one you put on Xandra’s headphones!

Xandra: So that’s why they don’t hold a charge anymore!

Stella: More importantly, what do you want me to do about it?

Laura: You’re a witch, are you not? Break the curse!

Stella: It’s not that simple. It takes a special kind of magic to break another witch’s curse.

Xandra: What is that special kind of magic?

Stella: Great question, Alexandra. Laura, go look it up.

Laura: When did I become your personal Wikipedia?

Rudolf: Heh. “Wicca”-pedia.

Stella: Do you want the curse broken or not? Go!

Looking back at this thread, I realize I am quite fond of describing abstract concepts being “rent to shreds”.

Once you notice something like this about your own writing, you either get self-conscious and avoid it, or deliberately lean into it. No points for guessing which route I choose.
