Is it too dumb? Because anytime I think of something I think is cool, I wonder: was it done before? What set of characters I write for is it most appropriate to? And I worry about being a SHIT brainstormer too! And too derivative.

I'll need some time to write up a good statement regarding this, but before that I just want to point out, that you are now literally making threads to what amounts to the question of "This thing I'm doing, is it wrong/dumb/bad"

Honestly, execution is more important than concept. Whether or not the idea has been had before doesn't matter nearly as much as the fact that it's never been expressed in your voice.
