Because, if past Windows releases are any indication, I'll have a steady stream of both praise and complaints the moment I start using it as my primary operating system.

    • Minecraft replaces Minesweeper
    • Nearly perfect Windows Jeff compatibility
    • Internet Explorer is now just Opera
    • Microsoft Security Essentials now transparently replaces that thing you downloaded from http://www.5z8.info/racist_h1f7vq_gain-inches with an actual copy of Photoshop
    • No longer crashes on startup
    • Comes with free application to fill gaping hole in your soul created by late capitalism's obsession with corporate gadgetry

    Cons

    • Minecraft replaces Start Menu
    • Certain Windows Jeff applications, such as Steam and Microsoft Office, sometimes delete random files from the hard drive if the moon is full
    • Book of Mozilla 7:15 confirmed canon, mortal armies ineffective
    • Microsoft Security Essentials's election plagued by irregularities; international observers claim it restricts free speech, pornography
    • Crashes if left on for more than 49.7 days
    • Probably not as good as Red Star OS

    I'm liking it so far! The new Start menu isn't quite as nice as the Windows 7 one, but it is something I feel like I can actually navigate efficiently, unlike Windows 8's "All Apps" screen where I usually just resorted to searching for what I was looking for.

    Only two major issues I've encountered so far:
    • The Windows installer replaced the driver for my Synaptics trackpad with a Lenovo-branded one, which didn't support multitouch properly on this Asus laptop. Downloading the correct driver from Asus's website seems to have fixed that, thankfully.
    • I was getting shitty battery life last night because something called "Runtime Broker" (which evidently has to do with Metro apps) was keeping the CPU running at like 90%. Killing it seemed to fix that with no ill effects, but it's something to keep an eye on.
    Also the database that underlies the new Start menu apparently maxes out at 512 entries, which is...kinda short-sighted on Microsoft's part. I haven't come near that limit myself, but it doesn't surprise me that others have.

    1. How easy is it to get to whatever it is that is used to navigate one's files and folders?

    2. How good is the Task Manager?

    3. Are there any annoying visual quirks you've seen so far?

    4. Are there ways to disable silly animations of workspace environment features?  I practically presume there exist such.

    Not quite...it's still there, it's just not used by default. (That honor goes to Edge.)

    1 and 2: File Explorer and Task Manager are more or less unchanged from 8.

    3: I'm not sure what you'd consider an "annoying visual quirk". I've been mostly satisfied with the look, though the new window theme took some getting used to at first.

    4: Not that I know of? But I haven't looked, becuase animations don't bother me.

    I can think of two reasons.

    The first one, as you've noted, is marketing. If it was called Internet Explorer 12 everyone would just go "ugh, more of the same", and honestly, I probably wouldn't even have bothered to open it.

    The second is that they want to be able to break compatibility with the various corporate intranet sites and crap that rely on quirks of the old, broken IE releases, and having a new browser lets them do that while still keeping IE around for the sake of compatibility.

    my brother got Windows 10 but now his computer can't tell that we have a wireless connection

    anyone know why that might be?  i've been trying my best but i'm not computer smart

    Can I use Windows 10 without a Microsoft Live/Outlook/whateverotherMSfeature account?

    Can I set up a Windows 10 computer without connecting to the internet at all?

    The best approach, generally, is to get drivers from either your computer manufaturer's website, or the component (in this case, the wireless card) manufacturer's website.

    Or, if you can get it connected to a wired network, you could try Windows Update, though that's pretty hit-or-miss wrt drivers.

    So apparently there's a thing with Windows having default apps that take up internet connection bandwidth.

    And also some accusations describing Win10 as a "botnet".

    I get that Cortana is heavily integrated with Bing. Whatever.

    But why is it that when I turn off Cortana and just have "Search the web and Windows" I don't get to choose what search engine I want to use?

    Like, having a search box in an easily accessible place on my screen 24/7 is a neat idea...but naturally, if I'm going to have that, I'm going to want it to be Google. A constant Bing search box is of no use to me.

    So I do the next best thing, which is turning off web searches entirely and just leaving it as "Search Windows"...
