I am interested in space, but not in space ships

Is this odd? Surely one can be interested in deep sea life without being interested in submarines.

  • Munch munch, chomp chomp...
I care about space ships but not space (relatively speaking), and deep sea life more than submarines depending on the angle taken, so no it is not odd to me.

I don't think it's odd. I mean, there are plenty of astronomers who want to learn about the cosmos without actually doing anything related to space travel...

It's like if there was a genre of sea fiction, and you were expected to be interested in the battles of the Kriegsmarine if you liked angler fish.

    No, that makes sense.

i suppose the excitement about space travel has to do with the desire to explore - space as 'final frontier', y'know?  The SF equivalent for the deep sea does exist - Twenty Thousand Leagues being the obvious case in point.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Space is the object, the ship is just the means of getting there.

Although some spaceships can be pretty cool anyway
