oh, is that what that's called?

also, an autism category would just be redundant, since every thread would be in it.

Campus Police are sworn law enforcement officers with the power to make arrest, issue citations, etc.

Campus Security are private security guards who do the security-related stuff that doesn't require sworn police authority.
  • One of the odd things about the US is that you can have privately employed police officers.  Campus police and railroad police are the best known examples.

Like the Rich family's Estate Police?

Funnily enough, I didn't think of campus police as being privately-employed since I'm mostly used to public universities.
  • It depends on the state how exactly it works.  In South Carolina apparently all security officers are legally equivalent to Sheriff's Deputies.  Most places, though, only certain organizations can have them and they need to have gone through peace officer qualifications and training and must be registered with the State.  In some places, they are officially members of a parent police department, but their salaries are privately funded and their patrol areas are specific to their employer.

    rent-a-cops
  • but that often is used for security officers who are not legally cops

Private police, though, are treated by the law as equivalent to peace officers with equivalent arrest powers, weapon carry privileges, ability to use blue lights on the car, etc.
