    Early Rugrats is weird as hell and really well done.

    Early Rugrats is weird as hell and really well done.

    It was also subversive on multiple levels: Setting aside the internal references to some really adult things, the plots were pretty out-there in terms of homage and content, and the whole thing was shown from a child's perspective without any sugarcoating. I loved it.

    It was a strange moment when I realized all the parents were parodies of specific types of yuppies.

    seriously though, We're Only in it For the Money is one of the best "subversive" works I ever did encounter

    I'd argue that the entire career of Beck (particularly early on) is a subversive masterpiece.

    I actually had a brief conversation about how weird and implausible Beck's fame was with my father when one of his songs came on in a supermarket.
