adventure games were generally for PC so they could use regular recordings rather than a sound chip. so they often did; the music in this video is actually in the game. not sure what else there is to get.

so is the point of the OP that people have misdirected nostalgia for old games with their use of limited soundsystems?

because i actually was wondering whether the "complex melodies of adventure gam" [sic] had anything to do with the criticism that game music these days is often atmospheric and generally unnotable

tbh John Williams isn't that memorable to me

like, if you play me one of his pieces i'll know what movie it was in, but it's not exactly earworm material

I used to listen to the soundtracks to the Indiana Jones movies a lot

some of the Star Wars music is pretty cool too

im not saying that as an "it's good/bad" thing, it just doesn't seem comprable to the simple catchiness of early video game themes

I find the Jurassic Park theme less distinctive (and somewhat like a knockoff of the Star Wars theme actually) than the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or Harry Potter themes.  Those three are really iconic.
