shit i cannot remember what damara is capable of

also it is becoming increasingly obvious that Aranea has been planning this for a looooong time
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Damara and Aradia are both rust-blooded trolls who, while possessed of very short lifespans, tend to have incredible telekinetic powers. Aradia's ghost, in particular, was able to toss around huge fragments of stone statues without a second thought.
  • i was kinda wondering if she did anything besides that.

    mmkay then

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Well, Damara was the Witch of Time if I am not mistaken, which basically makes her a pretty absurdly powerful player. Ditto Aradia as the God Tier Maid of Time, albeit in a different way.

Also, Damara's post-Scratch version was the Handmaid of Lord English, and her pre-Scratch ghost form is... well, absolutely insane due to Meenah screwing up big time in their session and ruining her life.
  • also i really thought that aranea would be pursuing a kinda stealth & cleverness type strategy

i was most certainly not expecting a "full out mind-control assisted assault"

Very well. I'll save judgment until we figure out what she's doing.

But if she really is trying to just pull a full-on assault, I swear, I am going to write an angry thing on the internet.

I am willing to bet she can pull off a full-on assault.

she just channels the powers of all of the Cronuses into one devastating wave of hair gel.

The Condesce won't stand a chance.
  • Chrome spellchecked Condesce for me

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Chrome and Safari have both come to gradually recognise 90% of the Homestuck lexicon given my frequent posts without my direct intervention. It is very convenient.

^^ Cronus is the Bard of Hope, and at least one version of him made God Tier. He may be a very dangerous loser, so long as his terribleness is properly channelled.

You two have Avatar's that are pretty much the exact same damn color and it looked like someone was talking to themselves for ~10 posts.

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
They're from the same panel of the same comic. The characters in the panel in question are a somewhat hopelessly dorky gay couple. Also, one of them is high as a kite and the other just got his hand chopped off by an insane drug dealer.

    Call me Mindfang.

Does Karkat still have his trusty sickle from his wriggling day, or did he never find it again after it fell through the floor?

Also, is Solluxander the canon name for Sollux or did the fans make that up.

    THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
    Spoiler:
Just putting the battleship on Derse managed to get Jane and Jade in the same place (potentially, anyway). I'm wondering if it really is a DISTACTION.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
It strikes me a little odd that Aranea can control so many Damaras, since Vriska couldn't control even one Aradia.
Also, is Solluxander the canon name for Sollux or did the fans make that up.
Solluxander was a joke by Hussie from his tumblr.

Of course, "Hussie nursing Jack Noir back to health like a baby bird" also was a joke from Hussie's tumblr. It's becoming increasingly difficult to tell when Hussie is telling the truth, joking, or disguising the truth as a joke.
  • Solluxander is clearly just a joke, though, since it's not six letters long.

Aranea has been honing her skills for aeons; Vriska had a mere six sweeps while she was alive.

That's a good point, though Aranea supposedly has had millions of years or some such to hone her skills.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
And Damara's just been twiddling her thumbs for those same oh wait it's the dreambubbles. There's no guarantee that it's been the same length of time for both of them.

It's also possible that Damara hasn't even given a second thought to keeping up any psychic defense in all that time, too.

As far as she knew, Aranea's powers simply didn't work on her, If Aranea has been working on this at all (it seems likely, since she's also worked on her Sylph powers), Damara could have simply been unaware it was in her best interest to basically psychic arms race Aranea over all these millennia.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Also, again: When Vriska attempted to mind-control Aradia originally, she had only been honing her skills for a little over a decade. By the time we see her again after her death, she and Aranea able to command whole fleets of spirits together. Sure, said ghosts do cluster together when controlled in volume, but regardless, time does make a difference.

    UPD8!

And today on Embarrassing Dreamtime Theatre with Jake English...
  • there was apparently another upd8, but the site is down now
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
The site is down? Hmmm... I hope that there is more to this in a positive way rather than a negative one.

Jake got "fixed" with a special operation to "alter" him and change his personality.
  • Aranea confirmed for actual scariest villain.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I'm not sure if I would call her a...

You know, I don't even know. But yes, she is quite scary. Also now my favourite dancestor.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
There is something darkly comic about Aranea going into her spiel about respecting Jake's personal boundaries, then "fixing" his mind without permission. It made me laugh out loud.
  • Aranea's totally a villain. Whoever does that to a person without their consent becomes the villain. There is no other option.

In fact, she's a much more effective villain than Grimdork Jade or Crockerbot.
  • edited 2013-09-07 20:31:02
More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I think Aranea is going to be one of the scariest villains. :) And she seemed so innocently dorky when we first meet her!
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Well, we don't know exactly what she is doing/has done to Jake just yet, so it could be totally horrible or comparatively benign. Either way, she is getting very "ends justify the means," which is quite a dangerous position to be in, and her plans sound very god complex-y despite their relative benevolence of intent.

In any case, she's still really scary and still a really engaging character.

    OMG :O Hussiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  • Living tissue over endoskeleton.
See, as much as I like Aranea's villain turn so far, I don't think she's got it to be the actual, final villain.

There's been too much build-up to Lord English being the final boss. Aranea is just going to kick things into high gear.

Or maybe I'm wrong, and Hussie will sweep aside three years of story for the sake of a twist. Wouldn't surprise me.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I don't think that Aranea is the main villain by any stretch of the imagination, but she is definitely a significant complicating factor. Then again, she could actually accidentally create or otherwise empower Lord English instead of erasing him, or else inadvertently end up supplanting him, so who knows? I sincerely doubt that Caliborn is going to cease being a crucial force in the comic any time soon, at the very least.

^^^ Note that in a perverse way, Aranea is exploiting Vriska's logic and the Lord British Postulate to her own advantage. She is, in her own way, a living glitch in the system... or exactly the kind of rogue player that the system wants. It is hard to say.
